MOUNTIES' BOWIE, HELSEL NAMED CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT SELECTIONS
Mount Aloysius College senior baseball players Connor Bowie and Ian Helsel were named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team on Thursday afternoon. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Mount Aloysius College senior baseball players Connor Bowie and Ian Helsel were named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team on Thursday afternoon. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Helsel was an all-district selection at the second base position, while Bowie earned academic all-district accolades in the outfield in District 4.
Helsel, a Biology and Pre-Physical Therapy major, has a 3.93 cumulative GPA. Bowie, a Business Administration major, has a 3.92 cumulative GPA. Both Helsel and Bowie have been named to the AMCC Academic All-Conference team and both are members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honor society.
Helsel currently ranks second in the AMCC in runs scored with 43. The Mounties leadoff hitter is fourth on the team in batting average hitting .377 and is sixth in the conference with 10 stolen bases. Bowie, the 2016 Preseason AMCC Player of the Year and 2015 AMCC Player of the Year, leads the league in runs scored with 51 and in stolen bases with 27. He currently ranks ninth in the nation in runs scored, 30th in runs per game, and 16th in stolen bases.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team Academic All-District honorees, which includes Bowie and Helsel, advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
