AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR OCTOBER 24-30, 2022
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's soccer, swimming & diving, and women's volleyball for the period running from October 17-23, 2022.
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's soccer, swimming & diving, and women's volleyball for the period running from October 24-30, 2022.
Men's Soccer (Offensive): Alfred State M Gavin Rice recorded five points on the week, as he scored two goals and added an assits. Rice assisted and scored on the first two goals of the AMCC playoff match for Alfred State, while also adding a goal in the Pioneers' regular season finale against Hilbert.
Men's Soccer (Defensive): Mount Aloysius GK Luke Priestly picked up his second shutout of the season in goal in the Mounties' 2-0 win against Pitt-Greensburg. He stopped two shots in the win, propelling the Mounties to their sixth win in a row and the No. 2 seed in the AMCC Tournament.
Women's Soccer (Offensive): PS-Altoona F/M Mallorie Smith had a big week for the Lions in a pair of wins over AMCC opponents. In Tuesday night's 4-0 victory at home against La Roche in the Lions' last regular season contest, Smith scored her second hat trick of the season and third of her career by putting three goals on the board. In Saturday's 7-0 win over Hilbert in the first round of the AMCC Tournament, the junior finished the day with a goal and an assist. On the week, Smith totaled four goals and one assist for nine points while recording eight shot attempts, putting four on goal.
Women's Soccer (Defensive): PS-Altoona FR D Dee Dee Abbott had a great week for the Lions in a pair of AMCC wins. In Penn State Altoona's final regular season game on Tuesday night at home, a 4-0 victory over La Roche, the freshman netted her first collegiate goal, assisted on another, and was part of a defensive unit that shut out the Redhawks. Abbott followed that up by helping the Lions to another shutout win, this time a 7-0 blanking of Hilbert in the first round of the AMCC Tournament on Saturday at home. On the week, Abbott scored one goal, added one assist, and registered four shot attempts with one shot on goal, while helping the Lions post back-to-back shutouts.
Women's Volleyball (Offensive): Mount Aloysius OH Molly Richards had a solid offensive week, as the Mounties went 1-1. She hit .273 in both of their matches, garnering 21 total kills and 22 total digs. Throughout the two matches, Richards averaged 3.50 kills per set, 3.67 digs per set, while adding three service aces and two assists for an average of 4.0 points per set.
Women's Volleyball (Defensive): PS-Altoona L Erin Lutz provided more rock solid defense for the Lions in a 2-1 week of play. In Wednesday night's home 3-1 win over AMCC opponent La Roche, the senior totaled a career-high 34 digs in the victory, and she followed that up with 10 digs in a Senior Night sweep of non-conference opponent Lycoming on Friday. During Saturday's tight 3-2 loss at home to first-place AMCC team Alfred State, Lutz recorded 18 digs. On the week, the senior libero totaled 62 digs for an average of 5.17 digs per set.
Men's Swimming: Pitt-Bradford FR Conan Young made a big splash in his first home race Friday night, setting the Pitt-Bradford program record in the 1000 yard freestyle. Young finished the race in 10:17.45, breaking the record by over 9 seconds. Young also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.19 seconds and swam the anchor leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 24.85 seconds.
Women's Swimming: Alfred State FR Emma Merrick won three events for Alfred State against conference rival Penn State Behrend, including the 200 IM (2:25.29), the 100 fly (1:05.49) and the 200 breaststroke (2:40.08).
Men's Diving: Alfred State FR Conor Compton broke his own 1m diving record with 282.85, earning his first NCAA qualifying score, while needing just one more to qualify.
