Women's lacrosse is in its first season as a championship sport in the AMCC, and Medaille College is the inaugural champion.
The Mavericks sealed the deal on Tuesday afternoon with a 23-10 win over Hilbert College. Medaille finished their conference schedule with a 3-0 record, which also included victories over Franciscan University and D'Youville College.
The 2017 AMCC season will conclude on the weekend of May 5-7 with a showcase tournament. Both Medaille and Hilbert hold affiliate memberships in the Northeastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and will have the opportunity to qualify for that tournament and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Mavericks are currently sitting in third place in the NEAC, while Hilbert is in ninth place. The top six teams will make the NEAC tournament. Remaining AMCC members will compete for the showcase title at the site of the highest participating seed in the regular season standings.
Following Medaille in the conference ranking are Franciscan (2-1), Hilbert (1-2) and D'Youville (0-3). D'Youville is in its first season as a varsity program. The quartet will be joined by La Roche College in 2018.
