AMCC Women's Basketball Game of the Week:
Mount Aloysius College @ Hilbert College
Saturday, January 13 at 4:00 p.m.
The AMCC women's basketball game of the week will be a showdown between the current top two teams in the league. Mount Aloysius College (9-3, 7-0 AMCC) enters the game as the only remaining undefeated team in conference play, while Hilbert College (8-5, 6-1 AMCC) is right behind them with just one loss. The Hilbert women's basketball team is moving through uncharted waters this month. The Hawks have never won six games against only one loss since the college joined the AMCC in 2004, and the 2017-18 team is three games away from establishing a new AMCC-era league win record and four away from an overall program record. The Mounties have won three straight, as they picked up a non-conference loss to Bethany College on December 18. Besides the loss to the Bison, the Mount has not dropped a game since their opening weekend of play.
Hilbert senior G Kelsi Ebert continues to drive the team with her scoring abilities and court vision. She leads the AMCC with 5.4 assists per game and is ranked #8 in scoring with 15.2 points per game. The Hawks rely on sophomore G Emily Gawlak's speed and hustle on the perimeter (13.2 ppg and 6.2 rpg) while dumping the ball in the paint to 6'2 junior F Katelyn Proy (9.2 ppg/7.5 rpg/2.5 bpg) or 5-11 sophomore F Ashley Repine who has notched back-to-back double-doubles this week. Hilbert limits their opponents to the league best 57.1 points per game while they average 64.6 points behind 38.1% shooting from the field.
The Mounties are led by sophomore forward Jessa Wright, who ranks fifth in the conference with 16.3 points per game and is fourth with 8.8 rebounds per game. Wright also tops the conference in three-point field goal percentage, as she has connected on 34-for-89 shots from long range for 38.2 percent. Guards Abby Kulick and Alexia Servello also average double figures for the Mounties, with 12.1 and 11.1 points per game, respectively.
