Hilbert College senior Jalen Smith has been tabbed a Preseason Honorable Mention All-American by DIII News, a monthly newsletter on Division III men's basketball. 

As he enters his senior campaign, the Batavia, NY native averages 14.5 points behind a blistering .408 3-point field goal percentage.  The south paw also averages 2.26 assists per game through his 78 career contests.

At the conclusion of his junior campaign, Smith was named a 1st Team All-Conference player in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference after leading the Hawks in scoring with 19.8 points per game.  He also averaged 2.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.8 steals and finished with a 1.7 assist to turnover ratio.

He appeared six times in the AMCC Top 10 statistical categories; Smith was the leader in 3-point shots (78), #2 in scoring, #2 in minutes per game (33.2), #5 in 3-point FG percentage (.422), #5 in assists/game, #7 in assists to turnover ratio and #7 in steals.

On the national level, the 6-1 guard was ranked #33 in 3-point FG per game (3.12), #36 in 3-pt FG percentage and #44 in 3-point FG made at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season.

Smith became just the 13th player in Hilbert's history to join the 1,000 point club and he is currently ranked in the program's Top 10 in 9 different Hilbert College all-time statistical career categories. 

DIII News released its Top 24 All-American selections based on three athletes per eight regions.  Smith, based out of the Great Lakes Region, was honored on the list of 28 Honorable Mentions. 

Smith was also selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year by the DIII News.
