  • HERZING AND PARENT NAMED NCBWA DIVISION III PITCHER, PLAYER OF THE WEEK

    The national recognition keeps rolling in for Penn State Behrend senior pitcher Jack Herzing and Pitt-Bradford junior catcher Austin Parent. Both players received the highest weekly award as they were named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Pitcher and Player of the Week for their performances during games played April 9-15.

    Penn State Behrend pitcher Jack Herzing was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North Division III Pitcher of the Week and made the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, announced on Tuesday. Pitt-Bradford junior catcher Austin Parent also made the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week and is finalist for HEROSports.com D3 HERO of the Week. 
  • AMCC BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: LA ROCHE @ PITT-GREENSBURG

    The AMCC baseball game of the week features a showdown of the leagues top two teams in La Roche College (18-5-1, 7-1 AMCC) and Pitt-Greensburg (15-8, 8-2 AMCC). The Redhawks have won four straight conference games since dropping an 11-9 decision to Hilbert College on April 6. The Panthers have won seven of their past eight conference games, but split their most recent double-header to Pitt-Bradford. Both teams enter Wednesday's games looking to hold onto or obtain the top spot in conference standings.

    Herzing's pitching performance is going to be one to remember after breaking the Penn State Behrend school record for most career strikeouts, along with throwing a no-hitter against Hilbert College. On the week, he struck out 31 batters and allowed just one hit on 14 innings of work. In game one against Hilbert, Herzing threw a no-hitter he where he struck out a 15 of the total 21 batters he faced, and retired the side himself on three separate occasions. Then on Friday, Herzing put on a strikeout clinic in a 7-0 win over Alfred State. He fanned the first nine batters he faced, and threw a no-hitter threw five innings. In the top of the fourth, the left-handed hurler sat down his 11th batter of the game to broke a new school record for the most strikeouts in his career, setting the new mark of 257 K's. He ended the game with 16 K's while only allowing one hit.

    Parent had a red-hot week for the Panthers as his performance propelled them to a 4-1 record in conference play. Parent belted five home runs and collected 14 RBI in five games. Two of his home runs were grand slams, and he hit three in one day at Pitt-Greensburg. He scored at least one run in each game, totaling 13 overall. For the week, Parent batted 13-for-23 (.565), had seven extra-base hits, and a staggering 1.304 slugging percentage, while also drawing two walks and adding a stolen base.
  • ALTOONA'S KLINE NAMED ECAC REGIONAL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

    Penn State Altoona freshman pitcher Sawyer Kline was selected the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week for the Division III South Region on Tuesday for his performance last week.

    Thomas earned the win after allowing just one earned run and striking out 10 in a victory over Hilbert.

    Jacobs had a big day in the Lions' doubleheader sweep of AMCC opponent Alfred State on Friday. In game one, the sophomore batted 1-for-2 with three runs scored and two walks. In game two, he was 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored. On the week, Pete hit .714 (5-for-7) with six runs, four RBI, two walks, one double, and one homer. He posted a .778 on-base percentage and slugged 1.286.
  • AMCC BASEBALL GAME OF THE WEEK: MOUNT ALOYSIUS @ LA ROCHE

    The AMCC baseball game of the week features two of the three remaining undefeated teams in conference play. Mount Aloysius College travels to Pittsburgh, PA to take on La Roche College, as both teams sit at 2-0 in the AMCC.

    The honors for the Alfred State College baseball duo Colin Johnson and Lucas Cornell continue to roll in. Both were key in the Pioneers winning five of six games last week.

    Cornell was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings of work. He threw a complete game shutout vs. Wells in which he struck out 12 and allowed just three hits and then tossed 4.1 innings vs. Pitt-Greensburg allowing four hits and two runs but not factoring in the decision. In his two appearances, Cornell struck out 16 batters, averaging 12.71 strikeouts per nine innings.
  • Colin Johnson, Alfred State College, Baseball - Player

    Johnson collected a hit in each of the five games he played this week. He had a huge DH vs. Pitt Greensburg where he was 5-for-6 with two home runs and six RBIs. For the week, Johnson went 10-for-16, collecting five extra base hits and nine RBIs along with scoring seven runs of his own as the Pioneers were 5-1, including 3-1 in conference play.

    As the month of March winds down, baseball season heats up as we move into conferece play this weekend. The first AMCC baseball game of the week of the 2018 season features Penn State Behrend (7-6) at La Roche College (11-4) on Saturday afternoon for a double-header. Not only are the Lions and the Redhawks the top two teams in the AMCC this season based on overall records, they have also clashed in the conference title game each of the past three years, with La Roche coming out on top each time.

    Sauer made two starts and allowed just two earned runs in 12 innings. He struck out 21 batters and picked up a win.
  • Reno Rainey, Pitt-Greensburg, Baseball - Player

    Rainey went 3-for-5 on the week with three runs, two doubles, and knocked in three RBI. He recorded two or more hits in seven of the 11 games this season. Reno currently leads the conference in slugging percentage and ranks third in the conference in both batting average as well as RBI. He also posted a perfect 1.000% fielding percentage on the week.
  • Ryan Boyer, Pitt-Bradford, Baseball - Pitcher

    Boyer worked a seven-inning complete-game shutout Sunday at Wilmington. He scattered four hits and struck out five while walking just one. From the end of the third inning into the seventh, he sent down 11-straight batters faced, opening up the chances for the Panther offense that scored 12 runs. With the win, Boyer improved to 2-1 on the season.
  • Matthew McCourt, Mount Aloysius College, Baseball - Player
    March 19, 2018
    McCourt led the Mounties offense on Saturday going six for nine, recording a .667 batting average. Five of his hits were for extra bases including two home runs and three doubles for a 1.667 slugging percentage on the week. He racked up nine RBIs while having 15 total bases and also registering four walks at the plate and adding a stolen base.

    Penn State Altoona baseball's freshman right-handed pitcher Tyler Manger was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Division III South Region Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
  • Peter Grunzweig, Medaille College, Baseball - Pitcher

    Grunzweig threw a complete game shutout in Medaille's 3-0 win over SUNY Poly on Thursday. Grunzweig limited the Wildcat offense to only two hits in the game, while striking out five and walking none. Grunzweig currently has a 2-1 record and 1.11 ERA in three starts with a .229 batting average against in 19.0 innings of work. This was his second consecutive complete game without surrendering an earned run.
  • Dominick Teoli, Medaille College, Baseball - Player

    Teoli had another huge week for the Mavericks as he reached base safely in all four games and recorded multiple hits in three out of the four games. Teoli batted .538 on the week, knocking in seven RBIs in four games. He also had a spotless fielding percentage at shortstop, going a perfect 17-17 on chances in the field. Teoli currently leads the conference in hits with fifteen, and has 12 RBIs and eight runs scored, to go along with a .949 fielding percentage while playing shortstop.
  • Ryan Boyer, Pitt-Bradford, Baseball (Pitcher)

    Boyer started two of the team's first four games of the season and has helped them to a perfect 4-0 start. In 11 innings pitched, he has given up just one run and eight hits and stuck out 19 total -- including 11 in his first outing of the season at Chatham. He tossed six innings in his debut and five in his second start, earning a win Sunday against Hiram.
  • Sawyer Packard, Pitt-Bradford, Baseball (Player)

    Packard is off to a red-hot start for a Pitt-Bradford team that has opened the season with a perfect 4-0 record. With an average of .500 and starting all four of the team's games, he has hit a pair of doubles, collected nine RBI and scored six runs of his own while posting a .550 on-base percentage. In a non-conference game against D'Youville, he went 4-for-4 with a double, four RBI and two stolen bases.
  • PITT-BRADFORD BASEBALL, WRESTLING TEAMS VOLUNTEER AT BRADFORD NURSING PAVILION SNO BALL

    All members of the Pitt-Bradford baseball program as well as athletes from the wrestling team volunteered at the annual Sno-Ball Dance at the Bradford Nursing Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 17.

    McCourt started the season off hot for the Mounties, posting a .533 batting average and slugging 1.133 in four games. Five of his eight hits have been for extra bases, including three doubles and two homeruns. McCourt also recorded four RBI and scored four runs of his own.

    Breon entered game one of Sunday's doubleheader at Eastern Mennonite in relief. The sophomore worked five innings, allowing only one hit and one run while walking three and striking out two. He picked up the victory, as the Lions pulled out the extra innings win.
  • AMCC BASEBALL COACHES SELECT LA ROCHE TO DEFEND CONFERENCE CROWN

    League coaches have once again selected La Roche College, five-time AMCC champions, to defend their conference crown in 2018. Penn St. Behrend is expected to finish second, while coaches look for Penn State Altoona to round out the top three.

    The La Roche College baseball team joined the Pittsburgh Pirates CARE-a-van event to make a difference in many lives. On Wednesday, December 6th the Redhawks donated their time and talents to help make a difference in the community.
