The D’Youville College women’s volleyball team finished their 2017 pre-season on Sunday August 20 by volunteering at the annual “Spikes for Tykes” charity event and co-ed volleyball tournament.
The team spent the day at Woodlawn Beach setting up and officiating for the 60 teams that participated in the tournament. Head coach Stephanie Kazmierczak, along with her two assistant coaches and 15 players, attended the event on Sunday. All of the proceeds raised during the event went directly to the Kelly for Kids Foundation.
“The event was a great way for our team to get involved in the local volleyball and greater Western New York communities,” said head coach Stephanie Kazmierczak. “Everyone had a great time and we are happy we could do our small part to improve the lives of children in our area.”
Since 2009, Kelly for Kids has raised over $275,000. The Kelly for Kids Foundation provides grants to programs in the Western New York area that directly benefit disadvantaged and/or disabled children. Former Buffalo Bills quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Jim Kelly, established the Foundation in 1986. It has since served Western New York by awarding over $5 million to local charities.
Last year, Kelly for Kids distributed $250,000 in grants to organizations like Boys & Girls Club of Buffalo, Food Bank of Western New York, Hunter’s Hope Foundation, and Special Olympics New York.
