PENN ST. ALTOONA SOFTBALL WORKS TO "STRIKE OUT CANCER"
In Penn State Altoona softball's doubleheader against Juniata College on Tuesday, April 18, the Lady Lions promoted a "Strike Out Cancer" initiative that hit close to home.
Before and during the games, the team sold special "Strike Out Cancer" t-shirts and accepted additional donations, raising over $500. That total was donated to Walter Giedroc, the father of Penn State Altoona sophomore shortstop Haley Giedroc. Walter has courageously battled lymphoma for the past several years. The Lady Lions showed their solidarity for the cause by wearing special lime green jerseys during the games.
Between games of the doubleheader, Haley spoke to the teams and the crowd, thanking them for their support. Walter then threw out the first pitch before game two.
